Hey there, Laney here from The Laney Way. As a multi-sport athlete, I’ve learned a lot about the power of confidence. It’s that feeling that pushes you to try new things, fight through challenges, and ultimately achieve your goals. But confidence isn’t something you’re just born with – it’s something you build, brick by brick, with every practice, game, and even setback.

Tips for building confidence on and off the field/court

1. Celebrate Your Wins (Big and Small)

Sometimes we get so focused on the next challenge that we forget to acknowledge how far we’ve come. Take the time to celebrate your accomplishments, whether big or small. Did you finally master that tricky serve in tennis? Did you lead your soccer team in steals? These moments, even the seemingly insignificant ones, contribute to your overall growth and confidence.

2. Focus on Your Strengths

We all have areas where we shine. Identify your strengths in each sport and use them to your advantage. Maybe you have a killer jump shot in basketball or incredible agility on the soccer field. Highlighting these strengths builds your confidence and allows you to contribute uniquely to your team.

3. Embrace the Challenge

Don’t shy away from difficult drills or competitive games. Stepping outside your comfort zone is how you grow and improve. Remember, The Laney Way is all about embracing the journey! Facing challenges head-on builds resilience and shows that you’re capable of more than you think.

4. Learn from Your Mistakes

Everyone makes mistakes. The key is not to dwell on them but to learn and grow from them. Analyze what went wrong, ask for feedback from coaches or teammates, and use that knowledge to improve your performance next time. Remember, mistakes are simply an opportunity to build a stronger foundation for your confidence.

5. Positive Self-Talk

The voice inside your head can be your greatest cheerleader or worst critic. Challenge negative thoughts with positive affirmations. Instead of saying “I can’t do this,” tell yourself “I’m going to give it my best shot.” Positive self-talk builds confidence and allows you to approach challenges with a winning mindset.

6. Visualization

Imagine yourself succeeding! Take a few minutes before practice or a game to visualize yourself making that game-winning shot or executing a perfect play. Seeing yourself perform flawlessly can boost your confidence and improve your focus.

Confidence is a Journey, Not a Destination
